Wheat Bags

Kia ora,
This year is the Year 5&6 Ski Trip. We have to fundraise to go on the trip first, so we are selling wheat bags at the Okaihau 150 year celebration. I was chosen to work with Mrs Munford who is organising the whole thing. Here is my completed work.

Readworks Article a day

Kia ora,
Every day we have to go on a site called Readworks and do an article a day. An article a day is when you read a few paragraphs and then write three sentences about what you learnt from reading that article. I have read two articles about Paris and Los Angeles. Here are two facts I learnt.

In LA seals come onto the beach and they are really friendly. In Paris they make cheese and people from America by it.

Than similes

Kia ora
This week we have been learning about similes. There are three kinds of similes like, as and than, we have been learning about like and as similes. Today we just copied our doc and changed our as similes into than similes. Here are my than similes.

An owl’s eye is rounder than a plate.
An elephant trunk is longer than girls hair swaying in the wind.
A flagpole is taller than tree trunk.
A soldier is stronger than a lion.
An overflowed rubbish pile is stinkier than a sock.

Like similes and as similes

Kia ora
This week we have been learning about similes. There are three kinds of similes like, as and than, we have been learning about like and as similes. We first off got into pairs and learnt the structure of a simile by collecting 2 pictures and finding the words to match them, secondly we went to our chromebooks and opened a doc, matched the pictures and wrote like similes about them, finally we showed the teachers. Today we just copied our doc and changed our like similes into as similes. Here are my like and as similes.

An owl eye is round like a plate.
An elephant trunk is long like a girl's hair sways in the breeze of the wind.
A flagpole is tall like a tree trunk.
A soldier is strong like a lion.
An overflowed rubbish pile is like a stinky sock.

Rubbish Data collection

Hi fellow bloggers,
Last week we brought our lunch boxes into class for maths to do a survey about how many pieces of non-recyclable food wrap we had. We made a graph and here it is. I was in the 1 pieces group because I care about the planet.
